Christmas is an annual commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ. “I have always thought of Christmas time, when it has come round, as a good time; a kind, forgiving, charitable time; the only time I know of, in the long calendar of the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely, and to think of people below them as if they really were fellow passengers to the grave, and not another race of creatures bound on other journeys. ‘’~Charles Dickens
The Christmas heart is a giving heart, a wide-open heart that reflects of others first. The spirit behind Christmas is that of giving and sharing. In the Bible, we learn of how the wise men, on learning about the new born child, came calling with gifts of gold. We should also be like these who understood the virtue in giving. It is through giving that we receive. Sometimes, the gains may not be natural but spiritual. Christmas is not all about merrymaking. We must also spare time to reflect on the essence of the period, which is the love of God for humanity.
We don’t need gifts, Christmas lights and Christmas tree to feel the true essence of Christmas. It’s about the love our family and friends, We must love each other, infinity and beyond. ‘’The best of all gifts around any Christmas tree: the presence of a happy family all wrapped up in each other.’’ ~Burton Hillis
